An Overview of Our Chapter
The Kappa Psi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi was chartered on April 28th, 2002. The Alpha Class consisted of 9 founding Brothers. They were James Brooks, Tracie Simpson, Josh Early, Travis Watson, Chris Neal, Calvin Sutton, Lloyd, Will Yow, and Jessica Fullerton. Of these 9 families, only 4 have remained active.
Our Chapter Sponsor is Dr. Terry Austin. Dr. Austin is the Director of Bands for the VCU Music Program. The Kappa Psi Chapter is constantly doing our part to help improve the music community in our local area. We are constantly assisting local school's music programs in any way we can. In our own VCU Fine Arts Department, we assist in nearly all performances hosted in the Siegleton Performing Arts Center, and the James E. Black Music Center. We have traveled to all corners of the Commonwealth of Virginia to do what we can to aid our fellow musicians in all of our pursuits to become better musicians. |
The Kappa Psi Chapter is the Virginia Commonwealth University chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Service Band Fraternity. The brothers of the Kappa Psi Chapter have been striving for the highest since 2002, and with 19 active brothers and many more conditional members.
Kappa Kappa Psi operates primarily as a student service and leadership recognition society whose chief aim is to assist the Director of Bands in developing the leadership and enthusiasm that is required of his/her band. Our goals are to provide the band not only with organized and concentrated service activities, but to give our membership valid and wholesome experiences in organization, leadership and social contacts. The chapter continues to serve the VCU band programs, while also assisting the pep band (The Peppas) and the other various music departments housed in the Siegelton Performing Arts Center (PAC). Helping local middle and high school band programs and numerous community music outlets are just a few of various ways the chapter does it's part to better the music world. With 15 years of service in the making, the chapter maintains strong connections with its alumni and always looks forward to welcoming new members. |
